Easily soluble in water and dilute alkaline solutions; insoluble in alcohol and acid.
The aqueous solution is alkaline. Absorbs moisture easily when exposed to air, leading to deliquescence.
Exhibits detergency, emulsification, dispersion, wetting, permeability, and pH buffering capabilities.
Concentrated solutions may corrode fabrics and skin.
