Sodium silicate is also known as water glass and commonly known as sodium silicate. It is composed of sodium oxide and silicon dioxide in different proportions.
There are many products such as liquid, solid and powder. The most common is liquid, colorless and transparent or light gray viscous.
The physical properties vary with the modulus. It is used as a filler for soap, an adhesive for corrugated paper, a metal preservative, a water softener, a detergent builder, a raw material for ceramics and refractory materials, bleaching, dyeing and slurry for textiles, mineral processing, waterproofing, plugging, wood fire prevention, food preservation, and adhesives, silica gel, silica sol, molecular sieve, white carbon black, etc.
It can be obtained by melting soda ash (or sodium sulfate plus coal powder) and quartz sand at high temperature to whiten, and then cooling, crushing, dissolving and concentrating. It can also be obtained by heating and pressing liquid caustic soda and quartz sand. The main components of sodium silicate after hardening are silicone gel and solid, with a large specific surface area, which greatly improves the bonding strength. The water glass is treated with a medium-concentration special adhesive and water mixed solution to improve water resistance. It is very convenient to transport, store and use, and is particularly suitable for mechanized and automated operations.
